Pedregal means rocky place in Spanish, and the vineyard was forged in the sheer rock outcropping of the eastern Oakville hillside. The finished wine shows why the effort was entirely worth it.

Vineyard

This is our fourteenth vintage from this three-acre hillside vineyard on the lower slope of eastern Oakville. Pedregal is just east of the Silverado Trail and north of Oakville Crossroad, across from Rudd and below Dalle Valle, other vineyards in the vicinity include Screaming Eagle, Tench, Tierra Roja, and Peter Michael’s Au Paradis.

Brix: 25.1˚ average
Soil: Iron-rich red soil, 85% basalt rock
AVA: Oakville

Winemaking

Varietal Composition: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot
Fermentation: Native-yeast and full natural malolactic fermentations
Aging: Aging sur lies with bi-monthly bâtonnage coats the tannins and integrates the wood. The 2017 vintage matured 24 months in new French oak barrels (Taransaud). Non-filtered
