2012 Syrah, Cole Creek Vineyard, Russian River Valley
Vintage Notes
“…aromas of roasted meats, bouquet garni, lavender and a hint of honeysuckle. Full-bodied and luscious with a velvety, voluptuous texture, it can be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years.” 95 pts – Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, December 2014
The 2012 growing season was close to ideal with temperate and steady temperatures that produced a long, moderate growing season with extended hang time and even ripening. We harvested the Syrah & Viognier from Cole Creek Vineyard on October 1st.
Winemaking
94% Syrah and 6% Viognier, co-fermented. Fermented in tank as 75% destemmed fruit with 25% whole Syrah clusters. This wine went through native yeast and malolactic fermentations and then rested sur lies for 19 months in 28% new French barrels from François Frères and Demptos. The 2012 vintage was bottled without filtration in June, 2014.
Winemaker Notes
Our Syrahs are grown in the cool climate of the Sonoma Coast which offers a style reminiscent of the Northern Rhone regions of Hermitage and Cornas: aromas and flavors of smoked meat, white pepper, green olive and grapefruit, coupled with a silky texture and savory flavor. This is the first bottling from this exceptionally situated site, which we helped design the layout of.
