Vintage Notes
“…Black currant, chocolate, savory spice and oak are prominent in the flavor profile. Its richness, roundness, soft tannins and approachability are all fundamental California North Coast…” 93 pts, The Corkscrewer Report, November 2015
2012 summed up to be a perfect vintage with clear sunny days and cool evenings. This produced a long, moderate growing season with extended hang time and even ripening, resulting in optimum tannin maturity and a deep range of flavors. The vintage ended with a textbook harvest starting on September 1st and ending exactly two months later on Halloween.
Winemaking
Aging on the fine lees incorporates the oak so that the 18 months spent in 57% new barrels (a mixture of three-year air dried French and American) is barely noticeable. As with all our wines, it was fermented with native yeasts and bacteria and bottled without filtration in June 2014.
Winemaker Notes
This is our eighth vintage of Napa Valley appellation Cabernet, which represents a combination of hillside and valley floor vineyards. This year’s blend derives from 45% St. Helena, 16% Napa Valley, 15% Oakville, 10% Mt. Veeder, 6% Diamond Mountain, 4% Rutherford, 4% Oak Knoll.
This release is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 3% Petite Verdot.
