Vintage Notes

This is our sixth vintage of this appellation Cabernet, which represents a combination of hillside and valley floor vineyards.  The fruit from this year’s 100% Cabernet Sauvignon blend derives 40% from the St. Helena AVA, 30% Oak Knoll, 15% Yountville, 10% Diamond Mountain, 4% Rutherford and 1% Mt. Veeder, which we harvested October 7 through November 4.

Winemaking

Aging on the fine lees incorporates the oak so that the two years spent in two-thirds new barrels (a mixture of three-year air dried French and American) is barely noticeable. As with all of our wines, it went through native yeast and malolactic fermentations. This wine combines the harmony produced by traditional Bordelaise winemaking techniques with the voluptuousness of a great Napa Valley vintage. This wine was lightly fined with egg whites and bottled without filtration in February 2013.
