Winemaker Notes

A new vineyard for us, the Pedregal Vineyard lies across the Silverado Trail from Rudd, below Dalla Valle. On a steep slope at the bottom of the mountain, it shares the same soil as its neighbors Rudd, Dalla Valle, Phelps Backus, and Screaming Eagle: incredibly rocky, iron-rich red dirt. Inherently low in vigor, this soil forces the vines to limit yields to about three tons per acre, the hallmark of great vineyard sites. Planted in 1990, this 2.8 acre vineyard includes about 20% Petit Verdot, which is co-fermented with the Cabernet.
