Ramey’s 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum has shut down quite a bit since I tasted it last year, not at all uncommon for wines of this vintage. Still big, huge and rich, the 2009 flows across the palate with massive fruit, but the flavors aren’t totally open today. At the same time, it is impossible to miss the wine’s underlying energy. The combination of sheer opulence and big, broad-shouldered structure is compelling. Readers who can be patient will be rewarded with a sumptuous Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink beautifully to age twenty, if not beyond. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2029.
