Pale, bright lemon-yellow. Complex nose hints at lemon, clove and minerals. Vinous and penetrating, with strong lemony acidity and a serious mineral spine giving the palate superb energy but keeping the wine tight in the early going. Finishes a bit phenolic, with terrific grip to support a slow evolution in bottle. This, too, needs time in the cellar.

The 2013 Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay is a spectacular showing from Ramey in this vintage. This expressive Chardonnay delivers gorgeous aromas of Asian pear, lemon oil, toasted hazelnut, orange blossoms and crushed stones, all coming together beautifully in the glass. On the palate this demonstrates remarkable balance and focus, with gorgeous acidity and minerality at its core. It continues to impress with its excellent precision and a lovely streak of acidity providing brightness on the gorgeous finish. David Ramey produces phenomenal Chardonnay from the Ritchie Vineyard year after year, and this is certainly no exception. I expect this to continue to show wonderful over the course of the next decade. (Best 2016-2026)

Review

This light yellow colored Chardonnay from the Richie Vineyard is terrific! It opens with a fragrant lemon and pineapple bouquet with notes of oak. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, shows nice bright acidity and is mouthwatering. The flavor profile is a tasty pear, lemon and pineapple blend with notes of toasty oak and a hint of coconut in the end. The finish is dry and its acidity and flavors drifted away nicely. Theresa and I both thought this was Excellent! We thought it would pair perfectly with lobster bisque. Enjoy - Ken

Review

Fairly intense, if still tighly framed with elements of ripe apples, fresh lemons, cream and subtle toast comfortably combined in both its beautifuly composed aromas and deep, many-layered flavors, this vital youngster is again exceptionally well-balanced with a full, fleshy feel and firming acidity in a near-perfect fit, and it is rich, pert and substantial- at one and the same time. Its flavors go on and on at the finish, and, even though it is already expressive, it too is a Chardonnay that ideally wants a few years before drinking.

Shows amazing vibrancy and purity of flavor, brimming with juicy, lemon-scented green apple, white peach and tangerine notes, enlivened by zesty acidity and a long, persistent aftertaste that maintains focus and depth. Drink now through 2020.
