This pitch black colored Syrah from Ramey opens with an attractive black raspberry bouquet with hints of blueberry and old oak. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and juicy. The flavor profile is a tasty blueberry and oak blend with notes of black raspberry. I also detected hints of black licorice, minerality and black plum. The finish is dry and its flavors and moderate tannins stick around for quite a while. Fans of South African reds will be keen on this Syrah. I would pair it with Brazilian Alcatra (Top Sirloin). Enjoy - Ken

Here is very solid, well-defined, no-nonsense Syrah that hits the varietal mark smartly, and, if never as deep nor as impressively far-ranging as Ramey's involving, single-vineyard versions, it is long on concentrated, ripe berry fruit with inklings of sweet oak and game along with peppery spice to spare.  It is structured to keep and should be allowed to quietly rest for at least four or five years, buit it will not begin to approach its very best until its tenth birthday nears.

David Ramey has always done a terrific job with Syrah and it seems to me that a lot of his efforts with this varietal are rarely noticed. All of his Syrahs are co-fermented with 3% to 5% Viognier, which gives uplift and extra dimension to the aromatics. Usually 20% to 25% whole clusters/stems are used during the fermentation and all are aged in 100% new French oak.

The 2013 Syrah Sonoma Coast comes across like a peppery, meaty St.-Joseph from Northern Rhône. Loads of black raspberry, blackberry fruit, considerable spicy notes and a hint of barbecue smoke are all present in this medium to full-bodied, delicious, seductive style of Syrah to drink over the next 7-8 years.

The 2013 Syrah (Sonoma Coast) is bold, plump and juicy. Dark blue and purplish hued fruits, smoke, black pepper, violets and lavender notes blossom in the glass. Bold and flamboyant in style, with plenty of underlying energy, the 2013 hits all the right notes. The vineyard sources are Cole Creek and Rodgers Creek. A touch of Viognier (8%) adds aromatic complexity. Today, the straight Sonoma Coast is my favorite of these 2013 Syrahs.
