Roasted coffee aromas are inviting on the nose of this Cabernet Sauvignon, blessed with 25% Cabernet Franc. The marriage works on every level, providing structured tannins and a leathery afterthought around vibrant accents of blackberry and dark plum. Broad shouldered, the wine is balanced with a jolt of minerality, suggesting cellaring through 2022–2027.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon (Oakville) is a one-off from David Ramey, made from two sites in Oakville. A bit shy today, the 2012 is quite floral and aromatic, but less expressive on the palate than so many wines in this vintage. The flavors are bright, lifted and super-expressive. It will be interesting to see if the wine fleshes out with time. Crushed flowers, mint, sweet red cherries and spices add the final layers of nuance.

The brilliant 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is a tiny blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc. Medium to full-bodied, it possesses notes of graphite, vanilla, blackcurrants and melted asphalt. Drink now-2025.
