Full, bright yellow. Deeper-pitched aromas of yellow fruits and clove, with suggestions of tropical fruits, nuts and biscuit; the first of these vintages to show real evolution. Creamy in texture, conveying a glyceral impression and captivating sweetness to its yellow fruit flavors. An edge of acidity gives this wine a slightly disjointed finish. I don't find the same chalky minerality I noted when I last tasted this wine a few years ago. Ramey considers 2011 to be a cold vintage but he also believes that this wine will evolve faster than the 2012. "The harvest was a month later so the grapes hung out in the weather and the fruit got a little tired," he explained. In fact, he believes that this wine is at its peak and predicts it will be more like the 2003 than the 2004 in five years.

Medium-light to medium golden yellow color; attractive, assertive, buttery, spiced pear and tropical fruit aroma with notes of lemon, vanilla, and toasty oak; mediumfull body; crisp, pear and tropical fruit flavors with well integrated oak and bright acidity hinting of lemon zest; lingering aftertaste. Showed good depth and intensity. Very highly recommended. (First place winner in Nick's tasting)

The Hyde Vineyard has heavy loam soils over hardpan clay on the rolling slopes of Carneros and is planted to Wente selections. The wine shows fragrant, yellow flowers and notes of stone fruit and Meyer lemon. It’s broad and soft on the palate with superb flavor depth, finishing with the perception of sweet, ripe fruit.

Ripe and juicy, offering a vibrant core of tangerine-laced green apple and pear flavors that fan out and gain depth and complexity on a long finish, echoing honeydew melon nuances. Drink now through 2020.

Ramey’s 2011 Hyde Vineyard chardonnay opens up with seductive aromas of honeyed lemon, vanilla blossom, spices and minerals, which leap from the glass of this beautiful chardonnay. It’s well balanced with a gorgeous rich texture that will instantly win you over. The finish leaves behind sweetened lemons and vanilla flavors that make this irresistible. Vine selection for Hyde vineyard consists of old Wente as well as Robert Young and Long Vineyards. Today, this seems to be the most delicious of the 2011’s I have tasted from Ramey, with the Ritchie vineyard being a close second. (Best 2014-2021)
