Medium to medium-dark ruby; attractive, forward, ripe, cedary, cassis and black cherry fruit aroma with hints of dried herbs, olive, and tobacco; full body; big, rich, concentrated, textured, dark berry fruit flavors that tighten on the finish; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Shows good aging potential with appealing, rich fruit and well integrated oak. Very highly recommended.

Ramey produced excellent 2011 reds, as these attest. The Annum is supple, full bodied, and well balanced; a concentrated wine that is long on the palate and persistent in the finish, tasting of blackberry, cassis, tobacco, toast, and spicy oak. Very fine quality.

Presents a Bordeaux-like mix of flavors, weight and texture, with chewy dried berry, cedar, cigar box, black licorice, dried herb and tobacco notes. Tightens on the finish, where the flavors push through despite the tannic grip. Drink now through 2024. 628 cases made. —J.L.

Inky ruby. Vibrant red fruit, tobacco and floral pastille aromas are complemented by deeper-pitched notes of licorice and dark chocolate. Sweet, expansive and lively on the palate, offering juicy redcurrant and cassis flavors and a hint of rose pastille. Shows a bright, spicy quality on the incisive finish, with supple tannins contributing structure. There's 25% cabernet franc in this bottling.

The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum is quite soft and accessible in this vintage, with less of its trademark richness, but impeccable overall balance. Sweet herbs, dark red cherries, mint and licorice meld together in the glass. In 2011, the Annum includes 25% Cabernet Franc, which gives the wine lovely aromatics. The 2011 finishes with terrific juiciness and resonance. This is a great showing, especially within the context of an extremely challenging vintage.
