Review

The 2009 Claret is a silky, polished wine very much in the style of the year. Layers of fruit flow effortlessly from this attractive, mid-weight red. Sweet berries, flowers, spices and licorice are some of the many nuances that flesh out on the finish. This is a more feminine, gracious style than the 2008, but there is still quite a bit of heft. In 2009 the blend is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Syrah and 1% Merlot. Drink: 2014-2024.

(95% cabernet sauvignon, 2% petit verdot, 2% syrah and 1% merlot): Deep ruby. Aromas of cherry compote, vanilla and smoky herbs. Broad, pliant red and dark fruit flavors show very good depth as well as energy, with a spicy, peppery nuance adding bite to the back end. Closes with very good energy and lift, leaving sweet dark berry and floral pastille notes behind.

Review

The Claret is full bodied, moderately rich, and well balanced, with a long finish, tasting of blueberry, black licorice, toast, pepper, and spicy oak. Excellent value. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 12% Syrah, 4% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc.
