2019 Chardonnay, Westside Farms Vineyard, Russian River Valley
96 Points – Wine Enthusiast, Virginie Boone
“From the producer’s own 75-acre ranch, this is an eternally outstanding white, that’s mineral-driven in oyster shell, with a twist of tropical flavor, French butter and baguette. Crystal clear and beautifully textured, it is a masterpiece of the grape: crisp, elegant and complex, with stellar use of oak.”

2018 Chardonnay, Westside Farms Vineyard, Russian River Valley
98 Points – Wine Enthusiast, Virginie Boone
“Quenchingly fresh, complex and structured, this wine balances lushness and rounded edges of richness with vibrant acidity and length. From the producer’s own 75-acre ranch, this vintage comes from a block planted in 1989. Gravenstein apple, pear and a note of nutmeg accent a stony texture of graceful tension.”

2017 Chardonnay, Westside Farms Vineyard, Russian River Valley
96 Points – Wine Enthusiast, Virginie Boone
“Made from grapes grown on the producer’s own 75-acre estate, this is a beautifully floral and high-toned white, opening in apple blossom and freshly cut pear. With integrated oak, tannin power and acidity, it shows a depth of complexity and elegance, rich yet savory.”
2016 Chardonnay, Westside Farms Vineyard, Russian River Valley
96 Points – Wine Enthusiast, Virginie Boone
“From the producer’s estate property for the third vintage release, this wine possesses a beautiful layering of minerality and expressive fruit characteristics of lemon verbena and pear. Complex and elegant, it is powerfully built and silky smooth, with quietly integrated oak and a ginger-like spiciness to the finish.”
2015 Chardonnay, Westside Farms Vineyard, Russian River Valley
96 Points – Jeb Dunnuck
“From the Russian River Valley in Sonoma, the 2015 Chardonnay Westside Farms Vineyard is a tiny production cuvée (234 cases) and offers beautiful notes of orchard fruits, spice, and white flowers. It’s classic Russian River with its ripe, powerful, sexy profile, yet like all of Ramey’s wines, has beautiful purity. It will keep for a decade or more.”
2014 Chardonnay, Westside Farms Vineyard, Russian River Valley
95 Points – Wine Advocate, Lisa Perrotti-Brown
“Pretty floral notes perfume the nose of the 2014 Chardonnay Westside Farms Vineyard, giving aromas of orange blossoms and honeysuckle over a grapefruit and white peach core, plus a hint of crushed stones. The medium to full-bodied palate is more powerfully fruited and concentrated than perhaps the nose suggests, with rich citrus and stone fruit flavors supported by racy acid, finishing long and creamy.”
Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
2020 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
“This full-bodied, incredibly rich and mouth-filling wine from a near-legendary vineyard saturates the palate with poached pears, marzipan, vanilla bean and crème brulee flavors, while being subtly lifted by a slice of tangy citrus that keeps it well balanced. Best from 2026–2036.”

2019 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
“From the great site—a marriage made in heaven with this producer—this wine is vibrant in lemon peel and tangerine. Fresh, focused and complex in structure, it presents a richness of Asian pear and spiced oak that develops as it opens on the midpalate. Lush and weighty, this wine has been made since 1996.”

2018 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
100 Points – Wine Enthusiast, Virginie Boone
“This is a stunner from blocks planted in 1997 and 1999. Beautiful aromas of toasted hazelnut and stone lead to a palate that shows undeniable minerality paired with lasting acidity. It shows freshness and energy throughout. Drink 2026–2032.”
2017 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
97 Points – Jeb Dunnuck
“More tropical and citrus notes emerge from the 2017 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard, which has a beautiful chalky minerality as well as medium to full-bodied richness, bright, racy acidity, a crisp texture, and a great finish. With remarkable purity of fruit as well as a chiseled mouthfeel, it’s another magical Chardonnay from this estate that will stand up to any Grand Cru White Burgundy out there. It has plenty to love today yet will be best with 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for over a decade.”
2016 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
95 Points – Wine Spectator, Kim Marcus
“Precise and powerfully structured, with intense Asian pear, apple and ripe citrus flavors that feature rich, savory notes. Displays concentrated minerality on the spicy and textured finish. Should blossom in the cellar. Best from 2021 through 2025. 1,256 cases made.”
2015 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
97 Points – Wine Enthusiast, Virginie Boone
“This sources from blocks planted in 1991 and 1997, older selections that show grace and power in the wine. Exotic in lemongrass, ginger and Asian pear, the vineyard-designate doesn’t hold back on supportive Meyer lemon-crisp acidity, enough to balance out the richer concentrated fruit aspects and classic oak. This is delicious.”
2014 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
94 Points – Wine Enthusiast, Virginie Boone
“This bold, beautiful wine has toasted, oaky undertones that support concentrated layers of apple skin, caramelized crème brûlée and a texture of gritty minerality. Papaya, mango and baked pineapple tug at the palate amidst a strong streak of stone.”
2013 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
95 Points – Vinous, Antonio Galloni
“The 2013 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is one of the richest, most powerful Chardonnays in the range. Here it is the wine’s phenolic and sense of vertical structure that stand out most. Even with all of its obvious richness and heft, the Hyde preserves remarkable freshness. Dried herbs, orange peel and buttery notes add nuance on the large-scaled, ample finish.”
2012 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
96 Points – Wine Enthusiast, Virginie Boone
“This longstanding collaboration between vintner and grower reflects years of mutual understanding and respect. The wine offers pretty orange blossom and lemon verbena aromas that wrap around a composed, well-integrated and mineral-laden body. Voluptuous, the wine is also well-balanced, finishing in bright acidity. It is deliciously good.”
2011 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
95 Points – Vinous, Antonio Galloni
“The 2011 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is a classic. Nectarine, wild flowers, mint, honey and Chamomile meld together beautifully in the glass. The Hyde is rich, oily and intense on the palate, with marvelous textural balance and tons of finesse. Hints of tropical fruit linger on the close. This is a super-classic Chardonnay from David Ramey.”
2010 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
95 Points, Vinous, Antonio Galloni
“Bright medium yellow. Complex, subtle nose melds yellow fruits, clove, butterscotch and a smoky sulfidey note that reminded me of a Coche-Dury wine. Wonderfully sweet and layered but light on its feet, showing lovely verve to its lemon cream, mineral and iodine flavors. The musky quality carries through the salty, fine-grained palate. Finishes with a firm tannic impression and outstanding length. Ramey describes 2010 as ‘a great, untroubled vintage–and a cool year.’”
2009 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
94 Points – Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
“Pale, bright yellow. Aromatically complex, vibrant scents of lemon, ripe peach, smoke and flinty minerality. Penetrating on the palate and cooler than the nose suggests, offering a captivating combination of stone fruit sweetness and lemony briskness, supported by iodiney minerality. Musky, fine-grained, concentrated wine, still with a bit of oak and acidity to absorb.”

2008 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
95 Points – Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
“Bright gold. Energetic aromas of green apple, jasmine, minerals and lemon zest. Dry and nervy, with brisk acidity and a saline nuance giving energy and lift to its citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Vibrant and impressively pure chardonnay, finishing spicy, long and dry, with an intriguing floral quality.”
2007 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
94 Points – Wine Advocate, Robert M. Parker, Jr.
“The brilliant 2007 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard reveals lots of nectarine, honeysuckle, orange blossom, and citrus oil notes intertwined with good acidity, considerable minerality, and a full-bodied, fresh finish with no evidence of wood.”

2005 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
95 Points – Wine Advocate, Robert M. Parker, Jr.
“A stunning effort, the 2005 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard boasts great intensity along with huge tropical fruit notes interwoven with notions of spring flowers, orange marmalade, white peaches, and steely minerals. Its abundant fruit conceals any evidence of wood. Well-delineated, with outstanding acidity as well as a layered, sumptuous finish, it should age nicely for 4-5 years, possibly longer.”

2004 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
96 Points – Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
“Bright yellow, with a bit less gold than the ’05. Knockout nose combines orange zest, clove, musky oatmeal and underbrush; I would have picked this as a Burgundy. Wonderfully zesty and broad on the palate, with its slightly glyceral texture leavened by terrific energy and lift. In its sulfidey complexity, salty minerality and well-delineated orchard fruit flavors, this is a splendid example of its vineyard and a stellar bottle of California Chardonnay. A very long, lively citrus zest aftertaste leaves the taste buds quivering. This was my favorite wine of the tasting.”

2003 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
94 Points – Wine Advocate, Robert M. Parker, Jr.
“The 2003 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is a stunning wine of great individuality, with wonderful minerality, sweet lemon oil, honeysuckle, white currant, and floral notes intermixed with a crushed rock-like note, and a long, heady, full-bodied finish. This beautiful, pure Chardonnay should age nicely for 5-7 years.”

2002 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
96 Points – Vinous, Antonio Galloni
“An unexpected addition to this tasting, the 2002 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is a real head-turner. Rich and lush on the palate, the 2002 blossoms with honey, tropical fruit, hazelnuts, and crème brulèe. Layers of flavor build to a striking crescendo of aromas and flavors in this stunning beauty. Today, the 2002 Hyde is simply fabulous.”

2001 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
94 Points – Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
“Healthy bright, full yellow with a gold tinge. Fresher on the nose than the 2003 but a bit subdued, hinting at yellow fruits, clove, nuts and sulfides. Bright pineapple fruit conveys very good energy, with toffee and mocha notes adding interest on the back half. Finishes with subtle salinity and excellent grip, almost phenolic in its crispness. This still seems a bit stubbornly closed–if that’s possible–and may yet gain in pliancy with more bottle age (this vintage was acidified).”

2000 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
93 Points – Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
“Deep, smoky, musky aromas of nectarine, peach and oak char. Powerful, dense and impressively deep; compared to the basic Carneros chardonnay, this is three-dimensional, with the volume turned up. Intriguing flavors of minerals, peach and peach skin perfectly supported by ripe acids. Finishes dense, thick, bright and powerful, with terrific persistence.”

1999 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
93 Points – Wine Spectator, James Laube
“A refreshingly rich and lively style, with vibrant pear, fig, anise, citrus and toasty oak nuances. Even with all its richness and concentration, this is an elegant and impressively focused wine. Drink now through 2007. 900 cases made.”
Tech Sheet: View PDF
1998 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
92 Points – Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
“Lemon-yellow color. Aromas of apricot, peach, marzipan and roasted nuts, along with suggestions of exotic fruits. Silky and lush, but with firm lemony acidity giving cut to the rich, leesy flavors. Still rather youthfully oaky and in need of time to harmonize, but today the high quality of this wine is plain to see. In comparison to this bottling, Ramey Hudson chardonnay is fatter and more voluptuous, with more volume but perhaps a bit less precision of flavor.”

1997 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
97 Points – Wine Spectator, James Laube
“Amazing richness, complexity and finesse mark this ripe, polished, elegantly detailed California Chardonnay. Juicy pear, tangerine, citrus, hazelnut, fig and spice unfold gracefully, with subtle toast adding pretty shadings. Delicious. Drink now through 2007. 400 cases made.”
1996 Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard, Napa-Carneros
94 Points – Wine Spectator, James Laube
“Ripe and bold, with juicy pear, citrus, honey and hazelnut flavors and smooth, well-integrated oak flavors, most impressive on the finish where the texture is silky. Best from 1999 through 2004. 255 cases made.”

“The 2013 Chardonnay (Russian River Valley) is another terrific entry-level Chardonnay from David Ramey. Here it is the wine’s richness and creaminess that really stand out. Honey, apricot pit, mint, butter and dried flower blossoms are some of the signatures. This is a real overachiever in its peer group.”

“Decadent aromas of golden pear and Tahitian vanilla rise to the top of this incredibly well-crafted wine, a blend of multiple vineyard sources, most of them single-vineyard designated in other wines. Steely minerality buoys the overall experience, with a touch of vanilla custard. The wine is rich on the aroma yet balanced in taste, with a finishing accent of orange blossom.”

“Vivid gold. More exotic than the Sonoma Coast bottling, displaying scents of passion fruit, poached pear, honey and almond paste. Then surprisingly taut and focused on the palate, displaying fresh tangerine and tropical fruit flavors and a bracing kick of bitter quinine. Plays richness off of vivacity smoothly and finishes supple, spicy and very long, with an echo of ripe pearl.”

93 Points – Wine Advocate, Erin Brooks
“The 2010 Chardonnay Russian River has an evolving nose of key lime pie, candle wax, crushed stone and dried white flowers. 2009 Chardonnay, Russian River Valley

“Bright gold. Wilder and more pungent than the Sonoma Coast bottling, displaying scents of poached pear, porcini and white truffle, along with floral and spice nuances that pick up power with air. Deeply concentrated orchard and pit fruit flavors are energized by tangy acidity. A smoky note comes up on the finish and lingers tenaciously. This comes across like a California version of a premier cru from Chassange-Montrachet.”

“Spectacularly ripe, showing an explosion of near-perfect fruit and smoky oak, balanced by crisply elegant acidity. Among the top ranks of Carneros Chards, the wine comes from manicured, low-yielding vines that, in this warm vintage, offer pineapple custard, lemon meringue, kiwi, crème brûlée and vanilla spice flavors. There’s something keenly firm and stony in the finish.”

“Combines richness and intensity with elegance and finesse, serving up tasty fig, vanilla, nectarine and citrus flavors that are tightly focused. Finishes with subtle fruit flavors. Drink now through 2005. 740 cases made.”

“As usual, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard is a great wine (a 650-case blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Petit Verdot). This sexy, full-throttle, opaque purple-colored 2012 boasts fabulous concentration along with copious notes of pen ink, blueberries, blackberries, and hints of graphite and espresso bean. Deep, full-bodied and multidimensional, this sensational Cabernet should drink well for 20-25 years. When I was tasting with David Ramey, he opened a 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard, which I also rated 96. A truly great offering, it was just coming into drinkability at the age of 10. I think the 2012 will ultimately be better and last even longer than the 2004.”

“Aging gracefully and reminding me a top Saint Joseph from the likes of Gonon, the 2011 Syrah Sonoma Coast offers a medium-bodied, ripe, layered profile. Blackberries, peppery herbs, graphite, and smoked earth as well as an almost granite-like minerality all emerge from the glass, and it can safely be consumed anytime over the coming decade as well.”
